A Proud Father.

Like I said in my last post, my daughter wanted earrings for her b-day. Well, the deed is done. My daughter now has two beautiful butterfly earrings that perfectly accent her features.

My wife, Zoe, Anakin, and I had to go to Wal-Mart for a bit of shopping. Upon entering Wal-Mart, Zoe immediately said "I want my earrings." Kristy and I decided to head over to the jewelry department after our shopping was done to see what they had available.

When we all got near the jewelry department, Zoe already knew what was there. She started yelling in the cutest screechy voice that she could muster: "I want my ears pierced." This was enough for Kristy and I, for we walked over and told her to pick out which earring she wanted.

It took her two seconds and she had picked out some cute pink butterfly earrings. They were $25, but the price didn't matter. We asked, "are you sure that those are the ones you want?" This question was followed by a resounding "YES!"

I squatted down to Zoe's level and said "now honey, it's going to be owie, okay? It'll hurt for just a little bit and then it will be all better, and when you get them pierced you can't take them out okay?" She replied with a smile "OKAY!"

She sat down on the little bench and my heart was already beginning to sink. I cannot stand my kids being in pain and I knew at this point that I was probably going to cry for her. I think I was more scared than she was.

I picked her up, and sat her on my lap so I could hold her tight and make her feel comfortable. My heart was pounding for her; I was already starting to feel a little bad.

I'M READY!!

I was so proud of her today, because she sat there with her head straight forward, doing everything that the ladies at the jewelry store told her to. She kept so still and they got in to position. One gun on either ear.

"Get ready, 1.....2.....3....Click!"

It took Zoe a couple of moments before she began to cry. She wasn't screaming, she wasn't flailing her arms about, she was just crying. I pulled her head against my chest and cradled her in my arms. I kissed her head and told her that it would be okay; she then began to just sniffle.

Owie!

I told Kristy to get the mirror to keep her mind off of it. "Do you want to see your earrings baby?"

"Yeah," Zoe replied with a sniffle in her voice.

She said "awwww, they're pretty earrings."

She was up and running around before no time. Then she turns to me and says, with a huge smile, "It don't hurt no more."

This caused me to tear up because she was so adorable.

"Yes honey, I told you it would only hurt for a little bit."

Then Zoe points to her ears and says "and don't touch them."

This was icing on the cake. My eyes began watering and I couldn't help it, but I was so proud of my little girl. I think I was the proudest father in that store.

It was a wonderful day today, because my daughter is gettin' so big. I'll miss it when she no longer needs me to rock her and hold her when things go wrong. I'm her rock, but she turns me into a soft, squishy teddy bear that is putty in her hands.
