In Praise of Britney
December 30th 2007 22:13
Although I'll be the first to admit that Miss Britney Spears is a very poor role model for teenagers everywhere, I also have to admit that when she was at the top of her game I was a fan. I had all her albums and even a number of her music videos.
I purposely boycotted her latest album Blackout as many of her other fans and ex-fans did...until yesterday. I'd heard it was good, excellent even, so I gave in and bought myself a New Year present. I felt I deserved it after treating my 4 year old daughter to so any lovely Christmas presents.
So now I've listened to the album a number of times and I have to say it is outstanding. It's certainly like no album she has ever released before. The opening line "It's Britney, bitch" certainly shows that Britney has changed, and so has her music. It's catchy, raunchy, intimate and has a strong addictive dance-like beat.
The album has some sexually explicit lyrics and the cover comes with a Parental Guidance sticker. But it's still pretty damn good.
Here's hoping Britney will use the royalities she recieves from this album wisely, especially as I've just contributed to them!
