Cruel and Unusual

November 15th 2009 01:52
I need help!
My son, also my youngest, stayed in the crib the longest out of all my children. After all, there wasn't another kid coming along to kick him out.

In fact, he just recently moved from the crib to his bed. We've been trying for months to switch him to his "big boy bed" and yet, every night he'd slip back to his crib--happy as a clam, and sleep.

So, of course, we got rid of his crib.

Here's the dilemma. He does NOT, repeat does NOT, stay in his bed. And since there is no crib to crawl into, he finds my bed. Every night. Sometimes its sweet to have him; sometimes its exhausting, especially after I put him back in bed, because--big surprise--he returns twenty minutes later.

Here's where the cruel and unusual part comes in--I want to buy a tent for his bed and lock him in it all night. That's right--lock him in. So he can't get out.

We had one of these things when he was in his crib. I don't know if anyone has ever used a crib tent. This thing was absolutely awesome. It covers the entire crib safely (not the legs, of course) with mesh. It has a tall dome so your toddler can stand up. But--and this is the best part--it comes with a zipper that can only be opened from the outside.

This tent guaranteed naps every day; gauranteed he slept in HIS bed every night; and when he woke up in the morning he was safe and snug as a bug until we got him out. The best part is, he loved it too. It was like he felt safe in it--like it kept away monsters or something. He'd even ask us to zip him in at night!

Anyway, when the crib came down, so did this tent. I even tried to retro fit it for his big boy bed--that worked great for about 3 days.

The tent adheres to the sides of the crib. Without a crib most of the tent's in a puddle which is why it only lasted a few days on his big boy bed.

No tent has meant NO NAPS--zippo, zappo, zaado, NOTHING. It means no going to bed until his big sisters do. And NO staying in his own room.

I know they have bed tents for twin beds, but these don't have zippers, and if they do the kids can still get out easily (yes, I know this sounds cruel to want to lock my child in--but he keeps asking for his tent back too.) I even tried to take a pop tent and modify it.

Does anyone know if zippered bed tents exist for twin beds? If so, where can I find one? I'm starting to miss his crib sooo much. And my sanity.
