How to Avoid Cooking Dinner- Part 2
November 12th 2009 19:30
Introduce your family to the raw food diet.
Step one: Open the fridge:
-select a bag of fresh vegetables. A bag of baby carrots are perfect.
-select a fruit: grapes, oranges and pineapple fit the bill well. (If you don't have any fruits in the fridge check your countertop for bananas, apples, etc.)
Be sure to close the fridge when you're done!
Step two: Check the pantry
-Grab a bag of nuts: peanuts, sunflower seeds or almonds will do.
If you don't have nuts or you have nut allergies, grab a can of beans (kidney, black beans, etc.) and one can opener.
Step three: Find something to drink
-the raw food diet suggests coconut milk (so, if you happen to have some of that hanging out in your fridge--well, I'm just plain impressed). Luckily, raw food also includes fruit juices, veggie juices and water. But since the REAL goal here is getting out of cooking dinner, not boring your taste buds entirely, I'd say go for milk.
]Step four: Be happy
You've covered a good chunk of the food pyramid (veggies, fruit, protein, and if you chose milk, add the dairy category). Plus, dinner preperations probably took less than 15 minutes, and you don't have a single pan to wash.
This method is probably only good once a month. Afterall, a true raw food diet's probably not the best choice for children long term.
Keep in mind, ten minutes into a raw dinner your kids might complain their teeth and jaws are getting sore. No problem, just keep on urging them to finish their dinner--and maybe, just maybe you'll let them have some raw cane sugar for dessert!
