Kate Moss Under the Spotlight
January 20th 2008 10:09
Supermodel and British style icon Kate Moss recently celebrated her 34th birthday in London with a group of celebrity friends including Kelly Osbourne and Jay Kay. They were seen emerging from the Punk Club in the early hours. Kate’s love of partying has been well documented in the press as well as her attraction to bad boys and illegal drugs.
Her reputation declined when she began dating British rocker bad boy Pete Doherty. Kate kept the relationship up despite Pete Doherty's repeated arrests for drugs, including heroin and crack. She was photographed by a Daily Mirror photographer allegedly taking cocaine in 2005 and was splashed across the front pages. She lost the majority of her modelling contracts as a result and gained the title Cocaine Kate.
However in an amazing comeback Kate Moss managed to turn things around and has become hot property again. She is worth more now than she was before her drugs scandal. Last year she launched her own fashion collection for Topshop.
It is uncertain exactly how much of the range Kate actually designed. Many fashion experts claim very little. The range seems to be inspired by her own outfits. Nevertheless it has been a huge success with millions generated by the desire to buy a piece of Kate Moss. And the majority of the buyers are teenagers.
But should Kate Moss be a role model for today’s teenagers? I would say no. Her name and her image are worth millions and have generated a huge income for Topshop. At the end of the day it is all about lining the pockets of the board of directors. I doubt that much thought has been given to the message a Kate Moss range for teenagers is giving out.
