Remembering Madeleine at Christmas Time
December 22nd 2007 03:43
With Christmas fast approaching the thoughts of many have turned to families who will be finding the festive season particularly difficult this year. One such family is the McCanns. 4 year old Madeleine McCann, the daughter of Kate and Gerry, and sister to twins Sean and Amelie, went missing from her bed during a family holiday in Praia daLuz, Portugal on May 3rd 2007. She has not been seen since.
Seven months on the McCann family are facing a difficult Christmas without her which they plan to spend privately their home in Rothley, Leicestershire.

Their spokesman Clarence Mitchell said,
“Kate and Gerry are strengthened by the sympathy and support that has been shown to them at this time of year. They are extremely grateful to everyone who is supporting them and remembering Madeleine at Christmas time.”
“We have had many enquiries as to our plans for the festive period. Christmas 2007 will be an incredibly difficult time for us if Madeleine is not found before then. We plan to have a very quiet, private Christmas with family in the UK. Celebrating is the last thing we feel like doing; however we want Christmas to be as normal for Sean and Amelie as possible. They have already enjoyed decorating the Christmas tree with their ‘granny’ and great aunt. Despite not yet being 3, they both seem to understand they will be getting presents from Santa. They have also asked if Santa will be bringing Madeleine home, which just about broke our hearts. Madeleine’s return would obviously be the ultimate present for all of us and would bring tremendous joy to people all over the world."
They have made a direct appeal to anyone who knows what has happened to Madeleine. Kate McCann says:
"You must understand that you hold the key to ending all this despair and anguish, for both us and Madeleine. At this time of year, when so many families are coming together we beg you to help us be reunited with Madeleine. Please do the right thing and come forward."
Speaking directly to Madeleine, she said it
"seems unlikely that you'll hear this but, just in case, it's Mummy and Daddy here... "Just know how much we love you, Madeleine. "We all miss you so much."
She said Madeleine's brother and sister, Sean and Amelie,
"talk about you all the time every day. We're doing everything we can, Madeleine, to find you and there are so many good and very kind people helping us. Our only Christmas wish is for you to be back with us again and we're hoping and praying that that will happen."
Bring Madeleine home.

I guess there's only so much media coverage that can happen in a year, so long as we're about to start feeling sorry for a missing kid and his/her parents it should be one that's cute, no?

Touching post... there are many more too and my heart goes out to all of them ... as a mother, I cannot (will not) imagine the pain and suffering... but to me there is something wierd about this particular case, don't you feel it to?
If I had a wand, I would wave it and all the lost children would return or at the very least, their bodies found. It is a sad thing to realise that walking amongst human beings, we still walk amongst predators, too.
I hope your Christmas is very merry.
