Another British mother has landed a national book deal as a result of her online blog.
From the Edinburgh Evening News GEMMA FRASER writes:
IT began as an outlet to express her thoughts on the "mind blowing" experience of becoming a new mother. But Helen Fowler's online blog on motherhood has now led to her securing a national book deal.
Mrs Fowler's blog - Mother At Large - has become increasingly popular since she started writing it in March, receiving around 100 hits per day. She talks about everything from childbirth to breast feeding, and careers to relationships as she comes to terms with life as a mother.
In particular, she focuses on the additional challenges faced by women who give birth later in life, as she had her daughter Harriet - now 18 months - at 38.
Her book, called Fashionably Late, will also be written from this perspective, and is due to go on sale in early 2009. She was contacted by web-to-book publishers The Friday Project following a recommendation from a reader of her blog.

Chapters will focus on issues such as coping with the dynamics of step-families, going back to work, juggling a social life, fertility treatment and medical advice.

"I have always kept a diary and when I became a mother it was such a mind-blowing experience that I wanted to write about it. A friend of mine who I met through the website knew that I wanted to write a book about being an older mother and mentioned my site to The Friday Project who are specialists in making books out of websites. They liked it and got in touch."

"Everybody that becomes a mother has their own challenges, but older mums have different challenges.
In my own experience, I didn't meet the right guy until I was 35, and maybe my career did play a part in it, but I didn't feel ready to make the commitment before."
