Violence on TV
Why is real violence on the news okay, but fake violence in a movie not okay? This question has perplexed me for some time now, even as a child. I'm sure we've all had the same questions, but I'm sure many of us differ in our opinions on the matter.
Personally, I see nothing wrong with either. Violence is among us, sometimes on a daily basis, so I'm not sure I understand what good shielding our children from the truth is going to do. They are going to have to deal with it in their lifetime, so I think that by exposing them to it early on (I have yet to decide on how early), we can create a condition in which it is not surprising.
Example, my parents smoked marijuana in front of my two older brothers and I, however, neither my brothers nor I smoke marijuana, but we are all for the legalization of it. It is this type of exposure that creates a seemingly desensitized view of the problems we're facing. Not that a complete desensitization is a good thing, but I believe that to an extent it is.
