What is a good age for ear piercing?

What is a good age to get your child's ears pierced? Well, I believe that largely depends on the parent and the child.
When our daughter Zoe was born, we contemplated whether or not to get her ears pierced, but ultimately we decided against it. We decided that it was Zoe's decision to get her ears pierced.

Her 3rd birthday is coming up on the 30th of this month. We are not in a very brilliant financial situation, so we are unable to get her the things that we wanted to get her. We decided to ask her if she wanted her ears pierced, and Kristy, my wife, showed her what the ear piercing is all about. She became all excited and now she keeps saying "I want my ears pierced too."

I made sure she understood that it was going to be "owie" for a little while after getting her ears pierced, and that she wouldn't be able to pull it out for some time.

She seems super-excited about the whole thing, so I think we may have found an excellent present for her b-day.

There are other presents, but we can't afford much, so these will have to do. She won't mind I'm sure; just as long as she gets her birthday cake and ice-cream.

Many people think piercing a newborn's ears is the best way, yet some believe the age of 5 is best. When do you think is a good age to get your child's ears pierced?

My mum told me that it might hurt a bit, so if I still felt like getting it done when I was 8, I could. I COULD NOT wait until my 8th birthday. It was a very exciting day. Although I do remembering it hurting a little, it was worth the wait. I feel that is a good age, 5 may be a bit young simply because of the pain. It's not much but they won't try to be cool and handle it the way I did being older, lol.

I don't think the parent should force an ear-piercing on to their infant. I would say that the parent should allow the child to choose when he/she wants to get his/her ear pierced. Its not really the right of the parent to put a hole in the child's body.

Just my opinion.
